Superintendent Shepherd announces the results for Floyd County teams and students who competed in the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition’s JV Challenge this past Saturday. This competition included high school students from Betsy Layne, Floyd Central, Prestonsburg, Johnson Central, Lawrence County and Martin County. The JV Challenge is a competition for 9th and 10th grade students.
Superintendent Shepherd comments, “Congratulations Betsy Layne, Quick Recall Runner Up! Congratulations Gracie, Hanna, Zachery, Jada, Kristina, Kaylee, Kailee and Taylor! We’re so proud of these students and teams! For many, this is their first Governor’s Cup event at the high school level and it can be a little intimidating. ” Shepherd continues saying, “We’re glad to be able to have our quick recall matches in person at this time and encourage parents and community members to attend a meet and watch these students amaze you with what they know!”
“If you missed the competition,” Shepherd said, “you can attend an academic meet this weekend and watch our middle school teams compete with teams from all over the region as Adams Middle School hosts an East Kentucky Academic Conference match this Saturday, November 13. Students will take assessments in the early morning but starting around 11:00, Quick Recall teams will begin competing. If you look at the state Governor’s Cup results from past years, you’ll see that teams from this conference score at the top in state competition. Our students compete in a very challenging conference so as to better prepare them for regional and state competitions.”
Shepherd ended saying, “We want to thank our parents, staff, and community members for all that you do for our students. Whether it is academic, athletic, performing arts or all the others that our students are involved with, you support them. We truly appreciate your support.”
